Style And Substance With Denziloe
by Hanna Prince
High-end hair salon Denziloe puts a premium on elegance, style and personalised service. It’s no surprise that business is booming for the Lindfield-based hairdressers. Hanna Prince pays them a visit.
Since opening its doors on Lindfield High Street nearly nine years ago, luxury hair salon Denziloe has gone from strength to strength. A fascinating historic backstory, elegant Georgian premises and a highly personalised approach to customer service have all combined to make the hair designers a hit both locally and further afield.
“When we started in 2009, we only had two stylists,” says Sonia Grover, who founded the business along with her daughter, Maria. “Now we have six, and we’re still looking for more talented staff.”
Denziloe has a venerable history. The salon was first opened in 1964 by Maria’s grandmother, Joan Denziloe. After a hiatus of nearly 30 years, Maria and Sonia revived the family business in the same building, which hides a stylishly redesigned interior behind its grand red-brick façade. It isn’t just Denziloe’s impressive historic credentials that set the boutique-style hair salon apart from the competition.
“We offer a one-to-one service from start to finish,” explains stylist and salon manager Maria. “We don’t have juniors here, so clients will have the full attention of a qualified stylist. We offer a more personalised service, adapting our approach to different needs and hair types. Clients get to know the staff and feel like extended family. Our talented stylists are versatile enough to cater for every generation.”
Denziloe combines all the benefits of a friendly, local hairdressers with the professionalism of a top-class salon. Stylists all receive ongoing training, attending regular courses and keeping up-to-date with the latest trends. Personal service is the salon’s mantra – each appointment begins with an in-depth consultation and includes advice on how to recreate the salon look at home.
The products used in treatments match Denziloe’s luxe ethos. “We hold Moroccan Oil and Sebastian, which are both niche, luxury brands,” says Maria. “And we offer a wide range of specialist treatments and services, from the KeraStraight smoothing system to Nioxin – a system for thinning hair, which works by stimulating the scalp and promoting hair growth.”
Denziloe is also a Wella-endorsed salon and a colour wall displaying hundreds of Wella shades giving the salon’s gifted team an array of colours to play with!
Add an idyllic location in central Lindfield with free parking on the doorstep, and it’s no surprise that Denziloe’s customer base is constantly increasing. The salon has clients from all surrounding areas, Maria even has one particularly devoted customer who travels all the way over from France.
“We even have one client who first came in when my Grandmother opened the salon,” smiles Maria. “Our passion today is as strong as it was back then.”
