Local Residents In 2015 New Year’s Honours List
Mid Sussex District Council Chairman, Councillor Gordon Marples welcomed some exceptional local residents to a special coffee morning on Tuesday 17th March. In the Queen’s New Year Honours List, four Mid Sussex residents were recognised for their outstanding contribution to society. The Chairman invited them to join him and Vice Chairman Councillor Peter Reed for morning coffee, so that he could show his appreciation for everything they have done for the community.
The two Mid Sussex residents who took up the Chairman’s invitation were: Colonel Edward Cautley, Colonel Commandant in the Royal Marines Cadets, who was awarded an OBE for voluntary service to the Cadet Forces and Dr Glynn Jones, Former Chief Executive of Brighton & Hove Council, who was awarded an OBE for services to the Community in Sussex.
Mr Keith Exford, Chief Executive of the Affinity Sutton Group, who was awarded a CBE for services to Housing in London and Mrs Susan Hill, Community Volunteer at a Mothers & Toddlers Group in Hurstpierpoint, who became a Medallist of the Order of the British Empire (BEM) for services to Children & Families were both unable to attend the meeting.
“We are incredibly fortunate to have so many local people who are dedicated to making Mid Sussex a better place to live,” said Councillor Gordon Marples, Chairman of Mid Sussex District Council. “It has become a pleasant tradition for those honoured by Her Majesty to come to the Council, so that their contributions are acknowledged and to join in their celebrations. To be included in the New Year’s Honours List is a tremendous accolade and I am grateful that I have been able to thank the recipients personally for everything they have done for the District.”
