Learn How Apprenticeships Can Work For You

A West Sussex County Council apprentice will share her experience of taking a first step in her career at an apprenticeship fair in Chichester on 1st November 2018.

The event is open to anyone interested in learning more about apprenticeships and the range of opportunities currently available to all ages and education levels.

Speaking ahead of the event, Billie Ellacott, an Apprentice Adult Support Worker at West Sussex County Council, said: “I had finished my BTEC level 3 Extended Diploma in Outdoor Adventure at college and I knew university wasn’t for me. I was looking for what my next step would be and saw the vacancy for this apprenticeship. Being able to learn in a hands-on environment really appealed to me and I applied without hesitation. It’s only been a few months and I’m loving it.”

Apprenticeships are no longer age restricted and are a great way to earn a qualification while working and earning at the same time.

The fair, run jointly by West Sussex County Council and Chichester District Council, is a chance to meet the apprentice employers and training providers attending and find out about current vacancies.

Paul Marshall, West Sussex County Council Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: “An apprenticeship is a great way to earn a wage and work towards a qualification whilst being in the real world of work. They are a fantastic option to people of all ages and experience so I would encourage people to come along.”

Councillor Tony Dignum, Leader of Chichester District Council, said: “We are very pleased to be involved with this event. Apprenticeships are a valuable way for people to get into work and offer great career opportunities. Over the years we have had several apprentices here at the district council, and all have done extremely well with many finding permanent jobs with us.”

The Chichester Apprenticeship and Traineeship Fair on Thursday, 1st November 2018 is at The Assembly Room, Chichester City Council, North Street, Chichester, PO19 1LQ, from 3-6pm.
