It’s Time To Talk Befriending
by Hannah Hammond
I am from a local charity called Time to Talk Befriending, who matches volunteers with the over 65s to visit once a week for a chat to help an older person to feel more connected to the world and less isolated.
We are looking for some awesome volunteers to join our team. We have many older people waiting for you to befriend, all we ask for is one hour a fortnight/week to visit one of our lovely scheme members (aged 65+) in their home, to have coffee and chat. Befriending is such a rewarding experience, not only do you make the older person feel connected to the world again you also feel great for making a new friend.
We urgently need volunteers in the following areas: Woodingdean, Saltdean, Southwick and Worthing. If you live or work in one of these areas or you live in any other part of Brighton and Hove and you would like to volunteer we would love to hear from you.
You can contact us via email on firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you would like to find out more about who we are and what we do please visit our webpage http://www.tttb.org.uk/
This is what some of our lovely scheme members have said about their experience:
- “I would rather go without food than my befriender. I do so enjoy his fortnightly visits.”
- “I didn’t used to care if I lived or died. Now I want to live past 100!”
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
