Taste The Fabulous Flavours Of Mediaeval England At The Loxwood Joust
Feasts played an important role in mediaeval life and mediaeval banquets were designed to amaze and entertain!
So always keen to step up to a challenge, the Loxwood Joust has once again teamed up with Toby Harmer to ‘WOW’ diners with an authentic mediaeval banquet that will be overflowing with the sights, sounds and smells of a mediaeval luncheon.
Mediaeval food was known to be rich and flavoursome, and diners at the four-course banquet will be able to experience and savour authentic recreations from a mediaeval nobleman’s salver. Dishes of the finest fayre will be served to accommodate both traditional and vegetarian palates, with guests being treated to the tastes and vibrancy of food from this time. However, participants are respectfully reminded that education and standing was deemed to be shown by good table manners, and remembering the teachings of Erasmus of Rotterdam in 1530 to “refrain from sucking on their fingers or blowing their nose on the tablecloth, as it is considered a breach of manners.”
Whilst dining, riddlers, jugglers and musicians will be on hand to entertain, as bards tell tall tales and spread rumours and hearsay. And with traditional games, songs, dancing and fun also on the menu, you can be sure that this sumptuous meal will be a culinary experience never to be forgotten.
Commencing at 1.30pm and lasting around 1½ hours, the day’s programme of events ensures that banqueting guests will not miss the action in the main Jousting arena.
Tickets for this unique experience are available at www.loxwoodjoust.co.uk and cost £22 for adults and £10 for children under 14 years of age.
The Loxwood Joust’s unrivalled programme of mediaeval revelry takes place on the 3rd, 4th, 10th and 11th August, between 10am and 6pm daily. It is excellently located just off the B2133 between Wisborough Green and Loxwood with ample Free Parking.
