Age Exclusive Retirement Living Proving Popular At Charters Village

There are now only six new properties left to sell at Charters Village, an age-exclusive retirement community on the outskirts of East Grinstead – such is the current trend for independent retirement lifestyle living.

Residents at Charters Village on Felcourt Road live independently in their own one or two-bedroom apartments or bungalows with the option of cooking for themselves or using the restaurant facilities; enjoying a drink at the bar or a coffee in one of the lounges.  The grounds are extensive and beautifully maintained.

There is also an active social life with a variety of groups and clubs, and outings and events organised by the residents for the residents.

Effie Whitelaw, who moved to Charters last year, explains the popularity of this type of retirement option. “You haven’t got to worry about ever being alone. You’re not alone. You can be of course if you choose to sit in your home all day by yourself but here at Charters you can do as much or as little as you like. The flats are beautiful. I’ve been in quite a few and they’re all different but all lovely. Village staff are on hand to provide as much support as they can. They feel more like friends to be honest. It’s a good life and home from home.”

Now, residents have the option of renting rather than buying their independent living home if that suits their lifestyle requirements and they’re ready to move into immediately. There is also a part ownership scheme available on selected properties, enabling purchasers to buy a percentage of their home.

“Renting has become a popular option and provides people with more flexibility depending on their individual circumstances. For some, purchase works; for others, rental is the preferred option,” said Chris Buck, regional sales manager at Retirement Villages. “Part ownership is another alternative designed to offer purchasers flexibility and freedom.”

Prices at Charters start at £227,000 for a 50% part ownership option on a two bedroom apartment and go up to a two bedroom first floor apartment on the market for £525,000.
