Christmas Comes Early – Chailey Heritage Team Up With The Big Give Appeal

A charity supporting young people with severe disabilities is urging the public to back its Christmas appeal for valuable new equipment.

Last year, Chailey Heritage Foundation raised £15,000 through The Big Give Christmas Challenge to enable its pupils and young people greater access to Eye gaze technology.

This year’s target is £18,000 for a specialist exercise device called an Innowalk, which will make a huge difference to the young people at Chailey Heritage. Similar in appearance to a cross-trainer, an Innowalk is a motor-operated therapy device that gives people who use wheelchairs the chance to move their legs and arms in both sitting and standing positions.

Every donation made by supporters via The Big Give website from midday on December 3rd until midday on December 10th will be matched. This means that every pound you donate will be worth double the amount.

Sally Anne Murray, Director of Development at Chailey Heritage, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be participating in this national initiative again. Christmas is always a happy time of year for everyone at Chailey Heritage and the Big Give is an opportunity for everyone to make a difference to the lives of these young people. Last year our supporters helped us to provide more eye gaze computers for our classrooms and residential bungalows.”

“With this empowering resource, young people with complex needs and limited communication have been able to learn and interact with the world around them. This year our focus is on raising funds for an Innowalk. By having access to our own Innowalk, young people will be able to gain a whole range of health benefits which include building muscles, strengthening bones, improving digestion, sleep patterns and improving general wellbeing. It would be wonderful if our kind supporters could back us and make a real difference to the lives of the young people at Chailey Heritage Foundation this Christmas.”
