Age UK Horsham District’s- Carol Singing in the Carfax and Christmas Collection 2014
On Thursday 11th December Age UK Horsham District will be holding a street collection in Horsham Carfax and singing Carols to help shoppers get into the Christmas spirit. Throughout the morning students from the Forest School followed by the year 6 Choir and Orchestra from Greenway Academy will also be performing carols and musical pieces on the bandstand, and in the afternoon Age UK Horsham District volunteers and service users will sing Christmas Carols around the Tree in the Carfax.
Angie De Ath Community Fundraiser says: “We are delighted that local schools are supporting us in a day of Carol singing. Next Thursday is the Farmers Market and also a late night shopping evening so this will be a fantastic opportunity for shoppers in the town centre to enjoy a musical interlude and support our collection as part of our ‘Spread the Warmth’.
Local residents who would like to support us by lending their voice to our choir in the afternoon are all welcome and we are very excited about the community coming together to raise money to help Age UK Horsham District help local older people stay warm this winter.”
Age UK Horsham District works to ensure older people are getting the assistance needed with their Home Visiting and Information & Advice services helping people remain independent and healthy. Many of these services are completely free and money raised from this collection will help them to continue.
“We had a really successful Christmas Fayre and would like to thank all volunteers and supporters who attended. The Fayre was a great opportunity for people to start their Christmas shopping and it too had a musical theme.
There were wonderful performances by The Gospel Choir from ‘Voice from the Coal shed’ and pianist Ken Harvey and we would really like to build on this success with another pre-Christmas event ’.
If you are interested in singing either meet by the tree by the bandstand anytime between 1-4pm on Thursday 11th December 2014 or contact Angie De Ath Community Fundraiser Age UK Horsham District on 01403 260560.
Age UK Horsham District will be running a range of events at Lavinia House in the run up to Christmas with early traditional lunches and will be inviting older people who would otherwise be alone to join them for Christmas Eve with games, entertainment and gifts. Lavinia House will be open again from 29th December 2014.
